President
Gordon B. Hinckley
1910-2008
President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away this evening with his family and friends around his bedside. Matt, Jordan, Devin and I were at a fireside this evening. It was the kickoff to our Martin's Cove trek that we will be doing this July. It was a very touching evening and the spirit was strong as we sang and listened to stories of our stake members ancestors who crossed in the handcart companies. Just before the closing prayer, someone gave word to our Stake President and he announced to us that our prophet had passed away. It was not unexpected, but it was shocking news, nonetheless. We closed with a prayer, and then not a soul moved as we just sat and contemplated the loss of this great man. Then someone asked if we could sing "We Thank Thee O God For a Prophet". We all stood and sang with tears streaming down our faces. I was so glad to have received the news in such a spiritual setting. It touched me deeply and will be a memory that Matt and I and our girls will share forever. He will be greatly missed.
