The Boy Can Read!

Brody's preschool teacher decided last week that he is ready to read. I wasn't so sure, but she insisted he's good to go. He brought home his first little book yesterday and sure enough, he sounded out the whole thing! I can't tell you the mix of emotions that went through me. I was both ecstatic and heartbroken. I was ecstatic because Brody had a very difficult time communicating until he was about 3 years old. The words were rolling around in his head, but they just could not reach his mouth. He would get so frustrated and we would all have to be very patient as he tried to explain his needs. And now he is my first child reading in preschool. None of the girls read till Kindergarten. Now let me explain the heartbroken part...my baby is all grown up. I feel like I have officially left babyhood behind. While I know this is the right choice for me, it never stops hurting just a little. Luckily, Brody is the cuddliest little boy and I will take every little squeeze I can get until he won't let me anymore.

Way to go, my little man.
